Article Reviews #2

Good Morning!

I was getting a bit bored this weekend so I created a blog. I am going to try and use this as much as possible for things in class. For example, instead of doing your article reviews and printing them off you can post one weekly on here. If you are unable to use the internet then obviously you have to still print yours off.

So here is the assignment

1. Do an article review and post it to this blog
2. Give me any ideas about the blog and what else we can use it for...

Have a great day!

Sharks Have Genes for Fingers and Toes

1)cat sharks have genes for fingeys and toers.
2)Scientists have believed that the gene for fingeys was first "expressed" like 365 million years ago.

3)But the new study says the finger-and-toe gene was first expressed much earlier, in fish—though not to such an "extent" that it yielded actual digits.

Rare Seahorses found in River Thames

fact #1: Seahorses show the health of the used to be polluted river.

fact #2: Increase in plankton explain the appearance of the seahorses.

Fact #3: Shows how much the thames can sustain life.

I picked this becuase seahorses are interesting, and cool where they migrate and live. It shows that some people care enough to rehabilitate nature and help the animals. Nature is making a comeback :P

Flat-Faced Crawling Fish Discovered

Fact 1: Discovered in Indonesia in January, the species has forward-looking eyes like a human and crawls rather than swims.

Fact 2: These and other traits suggest the fist-size animal may represent a new family of fishes.

Fact 3: Pietsch first learned of the unnamed species from dive-facility operators on Ambon island, Indonesia.

The reason i choice this article is because I wanted to learn about this weird fish.

Lungless ‘Jabba; frog offers evolution clue

fact#1: frog in Indonesia found that has no lungs and breathes with It’s skin

fact#2: scientific name is ‘Barbourula kalimantanensis’

fact#3: first frog discovered without lungs

summary

A frog was the first one discovered to breathe through it’s skin due to not having any lungs. It joins a group of salamanders and worm-like, which are known as caecillian. These kinds of frogs can flatten itself and glide across the water, which i thought was kind of weird. A collegue in Indonesia had found one and has been searching for another one ever since. These kind of frogs usually live in oxygen-rich streams.

Theres a frog in this world that can breathe without having lungs. This frog breathes through its skin which is pretty cool. I wish I could do that. I'd be like a ninja frog. I learnt that the frogs name Barbourula kalimantanensis. I chose this because it had'a froggy that can breathe through its skin. = ]

Viking Treasures Found Near Airport

Fact #1: Hundreds of ancient coins that were found near Sweden's main international airport suggest that Vikings were bringing home foreign money before scientists thought.
Fact #2: Kenneth (sound familiar?) Johnson who is a professor of coin studies at the University of Stockholm has dated the coin back to about A.D. 850.
Fact #3: The oldest coins came from Persia.
WHAT I LEARNED: Coins were found in Sweden that suggest that Vikings stole money from people way before we thought.
