We Almost Went Extinct
Fact #1: A new gene study says that 150,000 years ago, the human population split apart into little isolated groups.
Fact #2: They say that the little groups of humans reunited 100,000 years later in Africa and then migrated from there.
Fact #3: They say that at one point, our population was probably down to about 2,000 people.
WHAT I LEARNED: Humans almost went extinct but we split into small bands and came back together. We almost died probably because of climate change.

After near-extinction, Human, Split Into Isolated Bands
Fact #1: 150,000 years ago, humans spliy into small groups, living together in ‘isolation’.
Fact #2: 200,000 years ago, each human had a distinct species. These genes make it possible for every human to trace their ancestors back to them.
Fact #3: 60,000 years ago genes split into specific populations.
I learned that we still have stuff to find out about out ancestors. No matter how much we think we know about our ancestors, we will never know fully. This information helps us piece together our past, and show us how we have changed to suit the world.

Skin: The Body’s Protective cover
fact#1: Skin is the body’s largest organ.
fact#2: The average skin weighs about 8 lbs.
fact#3: The skin covers about 22 square feet.
From this article I learned the three layers of the skin: epidermis, dermis, and the subcutaneous layer. They all look different visually and have different purposes. It was very interesting to learn the importance of the body’s biggest organ. There are many parts to the skin structure.
